1. Every feeder carries (or is) an EGC — 215.6, 250.118, 250.134
- 215.6: where a feeder supplies branch circuits that require an EGC, the feeder includes or provides an EGC to which the branch-circuit EGCs connect; where it is a wire, sized per 250.122; where the feeder supplies a separate building, the EGC lands on the building disconnect per 250.32.
- What may serve (250.118(A)): a copper/aluminum/CCA wire or busbar; RMC, IMC, EMT; listed FMC on OCPDs ≤ 20 A, trade size ≤ 1¼, with ≤ 6 ft of flexible raceway in the fault path; listed LFMC — ⅜–½ on ≤ 20 A, ¾–1¼ on ≤ 60 A, ≤ 6 ft; FMT ≤ 20 A / ≤ 6 ft; Type AC armor; Type MI sheath; Type MC with an EGC or a sheath listed as an EGC; cable trays (392.60); cablebus framework; other listed continuous metal raceways and auxiliary gutters; listed surface metal raceways. Not permitted (250.118(B)): a grounding electrode conductor (unless it also meets the EGC rules) and the structural metal frame.
- How it is run (250.134): through the 250.118(A)(2)–(14) raceway/cable methods, or as a wire in the same raceway or cable / run with the circuit conductors (dc circuits and 250.130(C) replacement runs excepted). Identification (250.119): bare, or green / green with yellow stripes; 4 AWG and larger may be re-identified green at every accessible point.
