Georgia's "Special Equipment, Conditions, and Locations" block (21 questions on both exams) names "Install low voltage systems" and "Install communication systems" as tasks — this is that material. The 2023 NEC reorganized Chapter 7: Article 722 now holds the cable rules that used to sit in 725 and 760, Article 724 is the old Class 1 material, 725 is Class 2/3 only, and 760 is fire alarm. 1. Article 722 — cables for power-limited and fault-managed circuits
- Scope: cables for Class 2, Class 3, PLFA and Class 4 circuits. Only the referenced Article 300 sections apply (300.17 raceway fill, 300.21 fire spread, 300.22 plenums, 300.19 vertical support, 300.8 other systems, 300.7(A) temperature sleeves). The 310.14(A)(3) temperature limit applies. Class 4 cables go only where other articles permit and only in Class 4 systems.
- Mechanical execution (722.24): neat and workmanlike; exposed cables supported by the building structure with straps, staples, hangers or listed cable ties (plenum ties listed for low smoke/heat release); never strapped, taped or attached to the exterior of a raceway as support (except as 300.11(C)(2) allows); CI cable supported every 24 in. to a noncombustible surface with steel supports.
- Abandoned cables (722.25): accessible portions removed; future-use cables tagged.
- Safety-control equipment (722.31): where damage to the circuit could cause a direct fire or life hazard, use Class 1 wiring methods (724.46) — RMC, IMC, RNC, EMT, MI or MC.
- Installation (722.135): cables in buildings are listed; Table 722.135(B) — plenum cables (CL2P/CL3P/FPLP/OFNP/CL4P) anywhere; riser cables (…R) in risers and below; general- purpose cables (CL2/CL3/FPL) not in risers (except in metal raceway or a fireproof shaft with firestops) or plenums (except in metal raceway); *limited-use
